FreeGround-plane, from your phone’s height
Set how high you hold the phone and Clocked works out the distance itself, from where things meet the ground. Point and go.
Illustration of Clocked at work: a dog runs along the footpath at night, a box locks on to it and the speed reads 31 km/h, plus or minus 2. A runner, a cyclist and a car pass too, and you can switch the lock between them.
Speed, estimated live through your camera
Aim your phone at a passing car, bike, runner or dog. Clocked boxes it, locks on and shows how fast it’s going, live, right on the camera.
Thirty seconds
Half a minute of Clocked settling it: a dog, a runner, a bike and a car, boxed, locked on and clocked live, then a look at Pro.
How it works
Three steps, and the middle one does itself. No buttons to hunt for mid-pass.
Hold your phone side-on to the road, the path or the park. Clocked fills the screen with the camera.
It boxes everything that’s moving and locks on to the one nearest the middle. Tap another box to switch.
The speed shows live on the box and firms up as Clocked watches: 52 km/h ±3.
Modes
Start in Auto. Switch when the job calls for it.

More accurate at range
Tell Clocked how far away the path is and the ± tightens, especially further out.
Time it between two marks
Know the gap between two marks? Tap as it passes each one. 25 m in 3.1 s is 29 km/h.
Clocked Pro
The free app does the whole trick. Pro is one optional upgrade for people who want the numbers, the alerts and the bragging rights.
85th percentile: the speed 85 in 100 passes stay at or under. Illustrative numbers.
Set a limit and the locked box turns green, amber or red against it. Draw it as corners, a box or a dot.
A tone and a red badge when a pass goes over your limit.
Every pass logged. Count, average, 85th percentile, % over the limit and an hourly chart.
Send the log to a spreadsheet and slice it your way.
A photo with the speed stamped right on it. Made for the group chat.
Two marks on the road measure your lens height and the phone’s tilt, and the ± tightens.
Pinch, or tap 2x or 3x, to fill the picture with a pass further down the road. The maths follows the zoom.
Pro is a one-time upgrade inside the app.
Honest numbers
A phone camera can judge speed surprisingly well, if you give it a fair look.
Lean on a post, a wall or a fence. Steady phone, steady number.
Stand so it crosses the frame, not heads straight for you.
Close enough to see it clearly, far enough to watch it move.
Auto mode needs it. Set it once and hold the phone about there.
Every reading is an estimate, with a ± that shows how sure Clocked is. Set up like that, with the lens height or the distance set, the ± tightens. In Auto, two-mark calibration (Pro) tightens it further.
If the phone wobbles or tilts, or the target heads straight at you, Clocked tells you, and the ± grows. It’s for fun and curiosity, not for anything official.
FAQ
It’s an estimate, and the ± next to the number shows how sure Clocked is right now. The ± tightens when the phone is braced, the target crosses side-on 10 to 30 m away, and the lens height or the distance is set. In Auto, two-mark calibration (Pro) tightens it further. Clocked is not a radar gun, so use it for curiosity, sport and settling arguments about whose dog runs faster, not for anything official.
Cars, bikes, runners and animals, your dog included: the everyday things that go past. It works best when they cross the frame side-on. Things coming straight at you, or going straight away, are harder, and Clocked says so.
In Auto mode Clocked works out how far away something is from where it meets the ground, and that depends on how high the camera is. It starts at 1.5 m. Change it once to match how you hold your phone.
Both. Clocked starts in the unit your region uses, and you can switch any time.
Free: auto-lock, live speed, tap to switch target, Auto and Known distance modes, and the stopwatch. Pro is a one-time upgrade that adds two-mark calibration, the pass log with street survey stats, CSV export, speed alerts, box colours and styles, and speed-stamped snapshots.
Clocked is in Early Access on Google Play, and on iPhone through TestFlight: tap a badge on this page to install it. There’s nothing to sign up for here: no mailing list and no account.
